Timezone alignment for scaling our fast growing team
As we continue to grow and scale our team at Junction, we’ve taken some time to reflect on how we hire in a way that supports both our people and our product.
Starting November 29, 2024, we will only hire candidates who are physically based in the following regions:
-
EST Timezone
(e.g. Eastern U.S. states such as New York, North Carolina, Florida, etc.)
-
GMT Timezone
(e.g. UK, Ireland, Portugal – not France, Spain, or Italy which are +1)
-
The Philippines - to work EST timezone
🧭 Why this change?
We’ve had a few candidates from outside these locations recently, and as we scale, it’s important we align on where and how we grow the team. This isn’t just about logistics – it’s about sustainability, team health, and maintaining the agility we need to build fast and well.
Here’s what influenced our decision:
⚙️ Operational Simplicity
- Staying within these regions reduces legal and tax complexity
- Minimises onboarding costs (e.g. Employer of Record fees, currency exchanges)
- Makes coordination around public holidays, benefits, and compliance much smoother
🕰️ Working Together, Synchronously
- Avoids team burnout from late-night or early-morning meetings
- Promotes better collaboration without needing to stretch work hours
- Enables real-time problem solving and customer support coverage
✈️ In-Person Connection
- Our long-term talent strategy includes building three remote-friendly hubs:
- New York (EST)
- London (GMT)
- The Philippines
- These hubs give us the option to see each other face-to-face when needed – efficiently and affordably
🚩 Exceptions to this rule
- If there is a hard to fill role (definition: worked for 3 months with no success) then we will make an exception for the perfect hire, as long as they can still travel to their closest hub
- If we’re finding that customers needs more coverage from us as we scale then we will need to flex for front line roles
